Janis is a Counselling Psychologist (BPS, HCPC), Schema Therapy practitioner, supervisor, and trainer (ISST). He brings a wealth of experience from both private practice and the NHS, working with a diverse range of clients with complex needs. His professional background includes running Schema Therapy groups, offering clinical supervision, and delivering training programmes.

Janis completed his Post-Master’s in Counselling Psychology at Regent’s College, London, in 2005. Since then, he has integrated a variety of therapeutic approaches into his practice, including CBT, EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness, Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and body-focused psychotherapy. He regularly teaches Schema Therapy and body-focused approaches in both private and academic settings and serves as a visiting lecturer at several universities in the UK and abroad.

His clinical experience spans a wide range of medical and community settings, including GP surgeries, acute hospitals, drug and alcohol services, LGBTQ+ support services, community mental health teams, and specialist psychology services. Janis has a particular interest in working with complex trauma, personality difficulties, and relationship challenges.

He is a pioneer in integrating body-focused work into Schema Therapy and frequently delivers training in Body-Focused Schema Therapy (BFST) both in the UK and internationally. As an immigrant from Latvia now based in Brighton, UK, Janis is also deeply engaged in exploring the cross-cultural applications of Schema Therapy and works in three languages: English, Latvian, and Russian.
